The Keddie Cabin Murders: A Haunting Mystery That Continues to Baffle Investigators
The Keddie murders remain unsolved, despite a thorough investigation that lasted for several years.
On April 12, 1981, the family was found tied up with wire and massacred in their cabin, with no one hearing a sound.
Sheila Sharp, who had attended a sleepover and returned home to change for church, discovered the gruesome scene. Her mother, Glenna “Sue” Sharp, her 15-year-old brother, John Sharp, and her brother’s 17-year-old friend, Dana Wingate, were among the victims.
Sheila sought help from a neighboring cabin, and the police were quickly called. Sheila’s two younger brothers and their friend present during the attack emerged unscathed, having apparently slept through the entire massacre.
The victims were bound with electrical wire and medical tape and then bludgeoned to death with a claw hammer. In addition, Sue and John had been stabbed and had their throats slit, with Sue having defensive wounds on her arms.
Dana had been manually strangled and also attacked with the hammer. Blood was found throughout the cabin, including on the walls, ceiling, and furniture. It was a brutal scene.
Tina Sharp, Sheila’s younger sister, was missing, and a search was conducted. Law enforcement speculated that the killer(s) may have harmed themselves during the attack. Police found a hammer covered in blood outside of the cabin, in a way which suggested that the assailant may have used it as a weapon and injured themselves in the process.
Additionally, a bloody footprint was found outside the cabin, leading investigators to believe that the perpetrator may have been bleeding from their foot.
